Tiny Forest

Mini forests, big impact: biochar helps young forests in the city to grow - for the climate, biodiversity and people.

Tiny Forest - Small forests, big impact

Why we need more urban forests

Cities are becoming hotter, denser and louder. At the same time, biodiversity is dwindling - even in urban areas. Yet small, near-natural green spaces are crucial for the microclimate, quality of life and ecological balance.

Tiny Forests - small, densely planted forests based on the Miyawaki principle - offer an impressive solution. In just a few hundred square meters, a highly dynamic forest ecosystem is created in a short space of time: species-rich, climate-resilient and easy to maintain.

However, for these areas to thrive optimally - even under urban conditions with compacted soils - a well thought-out soil structure is required. This is where our biochar comes into play.

How we bring Tiny Forests to life

We work closely with our cooperation partner TinyGroup on Tiny Forest projects. Together, we bring together ecological, social and technical expertise - with a focus on healthy soils.

Soil structure with biochar: The soil is deeply loosened and enriched with organic material, compost, mycorrhiza and biochar. The biochar ensures water retention, aeration and a permanent CO₂ sink. Planting concept with high biodiversity: 25-40 native tree and shrub species are used, which are planted in several layers (shrub, lower and upper crown) - in a confined space, but with a high survival rate. Community involvement: planting campaigns are often carried out together with schools, local residents or initiatives - for a strong sense of identification. Monitoring and care: In the first two years, establishment care is carried out. After that, the forest continues to develop almost completely independently.

What we contribute in concrete terms

Supply of biochar: We supply the right biochar - fine, homogeneous, free from harmful substances - tailored to the soil conditions and substrate mixture. Substrate advice: In collaboration with the TinyGroup, we provide support with the optimum recipe for a living forest floor. CO₂ documentation: The biochar bound in Tiny Forests can be documented as a carbon sink - ideal for environmental reports or funding projects. Communication and impact: Tiny Forests are visible climate projects. Together with the TinyGroup, we help with press relations, participation and educational measures.

Conclusion

Tiny Forests are more than just a trend - they are living, resilient ecosystems with a measurable climate effect. Biochar lays the foundation in the soil.
