Technology

What pyrolysis is –
and why it works.

Combustion releases CO₂. Pyrolysis does not. Instead, biomass is converted at high temperatures in the absence of oxygen – the carbon is retained and the energy is made usable.

The result: stable biochar that binds CO₂ for centuries, and usable heat that feeds directly into the district heating network. Two products, one process, zero waste.

01
Biomass in

Wood residues, green waste and other untreated biomass from the region are delivered, sorted and prepared.

02
Thermochemical conversion

At 550–800°C in the absence of oxygen, the carbon in the biomass is not burned but converted into stable biochar. The reaction is exothermic – it generates energy.

03
Two products out

EBC-certified biochar for soils, substrates and CO₂ certificates – and usable heat for the local district heating networks. Continuously, around the clock.

Our technology

Autarkize –
technology we trust.

For our plant in Leinfelden we deliberately chose the technology of Autarkize. The manufacturer's continuous pyrolysis systems are designed for industrial long-term stability – and that is exactly what we need for 24/7 operation.

What convinced us:

Continuous operation without batch interruptions – stable production 24/7
Precise temperature control at 550–800°C for consistent biochar quality
Integrated heat recovery for feed-in to the district heating network
Compact, low-maintenance design – suitable for decentralised locations
EBC-compliant process – certifiable biochar quality straight from the plant
